WEBINAR SERIES:

2022 a year in review:

Piracy incidents in decline and a new threat landscape emerging

Through this new webinar series, our analysts will offer a global threat overview based on the 2022 annual incident figures, while providing an outlook of what lies ahead for maritime operators.

In the first webinar, Dr. Dirk Siebels and Thomas Timlen will discuss statistics on global maritime security challenges, while highlighting the underlying trends. Further, Hans-Kristian Pedersen and Ian Wilkinson will look at the maritime implications of the war in Ukraine, alongside the current situation and a look ahead. The review of the previous year will then be facilitated by David Friesem and Dr. Dirk Siebels, along with a discussion on the removal of the High Risk Area in the Indian Ocean.

The series then pans to an analysis of the European supply chain incidents, where Steve Bacot and Kristian Bischoff will look at trends, emerging threats and lessons learned in 2022. Following that, our partner Geollect will join Dr. Dirk Siebels for a dialogue on hybrid threats and how to improve security for subsea infrastructure; while the final webinar with Kais Makhlouf and Louis Borer will look at the broader Middle East, analysing the most important developments and identifying key topics.

What are the implications for merchant ships in the Persian Gulf?

Seizures of tankers by Iranian forces have made headlines on several occasions in recent years. The two recent incidents involving the ADVANTAGE SWEET and the NIOVI have once again highlighted Iran’s willingness to seize vessels to advance its interests, but also raised questions as to its motivations.

In this webinar, we will be looking at the current and longer-term implications for merchant vessel operations in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, highlighting that the situation remains highly volatile and must be closely monitored.

How can we improve security for subsea infrastructure?

For this webinar, we're joined by our partner Geollect, a leader in geospatial intelligence technologies. We will look at the increasing importance of offshore developments – from oil fields to wind farms – and the technology to monitor the related subsea infrastructure. Employing such tools can minimise both safety and security threats, keeping operations going and reducing costs for maintenance, repairs and insurance.

European incident analysis 2022

What are the trends, emerging threats and lessons learned from last year’s incidents against the supply chain?

Cargo theft throughout Europe remained an ever-present threat during 2022 as the supply chain got back in gear post Covid-19. The general threat of cargo theft, predominantly at unsecured parking areas (especially at night) remains and is no surprise to most. There are interesting statistics, trends and insights that we can glean from the mass of cargo theft incidents. There was also a significant rise in activism/protest incidents including blockades of logistics routes and commercial facilities. Violent robberies and hijackings took place in existing and emerging hotspots. Fuel siphoning incidents are widespread, both against trucks parked in non-secure areas and at facilities.

Join us for a discussion on last year’s incidents where we dig into the data to provide new insights and what this means for manufacturers and logistics providers operating in Europe.

Steve Bacot, LandRisk Manager
Marius Merz, Junior analyst

The end of the Indian Ocean’s High Risk Area

How does the removal affect maritime traffic in the region?

After several years without any attacks by Somali pirates, the High Risk Area in the Indian Ocean was officially removed in January. Maritime operators, however, are still facing various threats and risks in the western Indian Ocean with ongoing concerns over regional stability and the role of various militant groups. In this webinar, we highlight the major concerns and show how we can assist in assessing threats and the resulting risks.
