Le Monde | Ship signal jamming, a global threat made worse by Strait of Hormuz crisis
Louis Borer, Senior Analyst at Risk Intelligence, shared his insights in an interview with Le Monde on the increasing use of signal jamming in the maritime domain amid the ongoing Middle East crisis.

According to Borer, the area around Haifa, Israel’s main port, has been regularly affected by signal jamming since the beginning of the crisis involving the Houthis in November 2023. He explained that many vessels sought to conceal their presence and intention to call at the port in order to avoid being associated with Israeli interests and reduce the risk of being targeted.
He also noted that jamming is “not only defensive”, as seen around Israeli ports, but can also be used offensively with the aim of disrupting civilian or military operations.
