TOTAL: 170 European violent cargo theft incidents in 2022

The UK, Italy and Germany recorded the highest number of incidents. The violent cargo theft hotspot area in southern Italy (Campania-Puglia) is still extant with this area accounting for most robbery/hijack incidents in Italy. Whilst organised crime remains a part of the pattern of life in this area this trend is likely to continue.

In the UK, robberies of goods and last mile delivery vans made up most of the violent cargo theft incidents. These took place predominantly in the midlands and targeted last mile delivery companies making doorstep deliveries in residential areas.

In Germany, criminals directly targeted trucks and their drivers in areas with a high density of logistics traffic, such as unsecured parking or service areas.
