Consultant/Project Manager

Risk Intelligence is looking for a maritime security consultant and project manager to complement its existing multi-national team. Risk Intelligence provides intelligence advice and high quality maritime security consultancy to maritime and oil & gas offshore clients world-wide.

Job profile
You will be a part of the consultancy team, reporting to the Director of Consultancy, with a view to becoming his second-in-command and operational project manager. The job will require flexibility and occasional, extensive travel, often at short notice.

In this challenging position, you will:

  • Be responsible for implementing consulting project alone, as a team leader or project manager on a world-wide basis (ship security surveys, verification of security measures onshore/offshore, shore-side security management consultancy).
  • Apply, evolve and develop intelligence-driven maritime security solutions and concepts including security risk assessments.
  • Support intelligence and operations analysis within Risk Intelligence with naval/maritime/security expertise.
  • Produce bespoke subject matter reports for internal and external customers on maritime threat situations and specific aspects of maritime security.
  • Liaise with customers, naval forces and government authorities to exchange experience and information.
  • Represent Risk Intelligence at conferences and public speaking engagements.

Professional Background
You should have any of the following professional backgrounds

Military

  • Naval officer (SubLt - Ltcdr/Lt.z.S. - KptLt) with at least 4 years operational shipboard experience (e.g. navigating officer, PWO, deck officer) and deployment to relevant missions, e.g. Enduring Freedom, Active Endeavour, Ocean Shield, Atalanta or UNIFIL etc. or
  • Marines/Naval Infantry officer with shipboard/force protection experience, preferably as boarding team or vessel protection detachment leader and deployment to relevant missions, e.g. Enduring Freedom, Active Endeavour, Ocean Shield, Atalanta or UNIFIL etc.

Police/Law Enforcement

  • Law enforcement officer (Inspector/Chief Inspector) with background in counter-terrorism, organised-crime fighting, coast guard and
  • More than 2 years demonstrable experience in maritime security outside ISPS Code related work.

Civilian maritime security (can complement the above)

  • Any other relevant professional qualification, e.g. officer or warrant officer in other branches of the military, master mariner etc. and
  • More than 5 years demonstrable experience in maritime security, with 2 years primary work in or with a high-risk area outside ISPS Code related work, preferably in Africa or South-East Asia. 

Education
The following formal education is highly desirable: 

  • A BA or MA (or any national/military equivalent) in a relevant field, e.g.: war studies, criminology, maritime studies, terrorism studies, risk and crisis management, international relations, security management/engineering, intelligence studies/management etc.

Knowledge and skill sets
You have the following:

  • Ability to be a self-starter
  • Analytical thinking
  • Good to very good skills in MS Office
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environments
  • Project management skills

Languages

  • English: fluent verbal and very good writing skills. A good nautical/military vocabulary is desirable.
  • German: good verbal & writing skills.

Location

  • Hamburg, Germany (main place of work, can be combined with e.g. Vedbaek, Denmark)
  • Flexible arrangements possible, including housing allowance for week-end commuters.

Employment terms

  • Full-time independent contractor, consultant contract (100%/fully retained) based on Danish employment terms.
  • For Danish nationals: employment contract.
